I live in a small town just outside Willow Forest.
I was adopted as a baby. Now I live with my mom, dad, and brother.

In my free time, I write poems—but I never let anyone see them. I like reading and painting, too.

My best friend is named Lucy. We spend all of our time together. We always have.

But when she kisses the boy I like, everything changes.

What do I wish for most? In my secret heart of hearts, I wish I’d met my birth mother. And I wish for bravery and strength.

I wish to be more like Lucy.

II live in Mearston with my mom. She’s pretty amazing, and I’ve always looked up to her, even though she has some crazy beliefs, like faeries and spells and wishes. I think she has some kind of secret past that she’s never shared with me.

In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends. My best friend is Soli. We’ve been friends our whole lives, ever since her parents adopted her when she was a baby. I love her like a sister, but sometimes I wish she’d be a little braver. Sometimes I feel like she’s bringing me down and holding me back.

And I can’t help that I like the same boy she does.

What do I wish for most? I wish Soli would stop worrying so much. I wish my mom would, too. And sometimes I wish I could just be left alone.

Calandra rules over part of Faerieground, but her reign is not a happy one. For the past twelve years, ever since her husband, the beloved king, was killed, there has been strife and struggle in the kingdom.

It is said that she killed the king. Calandra had a baby, Hope, who was taken from her.

Andria is Lucy’s mother. She leaves offerings for faeries and has always cautioned Lucy and Soli to never, ever make a wish on faerie ground—like Willow Forest.

This group of Seer faeries is made up of only women—some of them five centuries old—and led by Motherbird. They are mind-readers and future-tellers. It is said that they took Calandra’s baby.

A renegade youth who’s in and out of Calandra’s prison, Kheelan is part of the faction that battles against the hated queen.

Caro is a traveler. She lives by her wits, and almost never gets caught.

He makes Soli feel like she’s not invisible.

But he kisses Lucy.
